Student Profile: Chris Love, PMP

Chris LoveI have over 20 years in IT, technical support and management of global support teams.  I have managed a number of small projects along the way from construction to software and hardware rollouts.  

I am currently a consultant working with clients who need to revamp, revitalise or implement technical/customer support departments as well as website design and instructing on various topics from defensive tactics to use of force.  I had considered taking the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam for quite awhile before I actually took the class and got it done.

Bruno Bergallo PMPI live with my wife and my two daughters in Bahia Blanca city in the south of Buenos Aires province in Argentina. I am a professional engineer with a huge background in gas pipelines, petrochemical industry and power generation.

I work for Pampa Energy the biggest energy company in Argentina, nowadays I am Site Manager for a new power facility of 101MW located in Bahia Blanca. I always be involved with Engineering, Project Management and Construction Projects. Around ten years ago I found the A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) in the Project Management Institute (PMI)® website a powerful tool for my routine work.

RESIZEI am a wife and a mother of four. My family is a huge part of my success and the lead support of my career, I wouldn’t have accomplish this if it wasn’t for their unlimited dedication in my pursuit.

I have been managing projects for ten years for Technology & Telecommunications research and developments and other engineering products. I have come to believe that better project managers are those who can properly execute the PMBOK and make their decision based on what’s better for the project and not their own interest. Alissa Jandrain PMPI have been working in Project Management for 12yrs in the school software business. Our company was looking to take project management to the next level and asked if I would be willing to accept the challenge.  I gladly did.  This was a certification I thought about for some time and was now at a point in my career where I was ready to go after it.

The most difficult part for me in my PMP studies was seeing the big picture and how everything interrelated to each other. But through my PMP® Exam coaching classes and formal teaching I understood the concepts but didn’t quite grasp how everything interrelated.

The first week, I only listened/watched the PrepCast podcasts.  I did a little bit of surfing on the internet as well to see people's experience and strategies with length and approach to the preparation, but I didn't buy any other books as part of my training.

Michael Bartlett PMPI’m originally from the UK, now living in the beautiful Ozarks in Missouri, where my focus in on User and Customer Experience.  My exposure to Project Management began in 2001, using Agile (Back then we called it Evolutionary Prototyping) to build software systems for a Space Agency.  I have applied my knowledge not only across industries, but also outside of the software world – producing feature films.  The skills are amazingly transferable.  The most recent film I made – “Treehouse” – was shot whilst working a full time job.  Project Management is all about the art of balance, and that was certainly quite the balancing act!

Emily WarmannI have been in project management for over 10 years within varying industries.  I started my career in the entertainment industry, then transitioned to Government, overseeing Capital Improvement projects at a Federal agency, then to Process Improvements within the Operations/Engineering arm of a major Biotech.  Currently, I am a Project Manager within the Commercialization and R&D Compliance group of the same major Biotech company.

In the first week of PMP® exam preparation, I recommend obtaining a copy of the PMBOK, reading through the table of contents and first chapter, taking the practice exam, then listening to the first/introductory modules of the PrepCast.  The first chapter is fairly easy but the content quickly gets complicated.  Don't get hung up!

Phil Schuyler PMPMy Name is Phil Schuyler, I am 33 years old, and I work as a Sr. Controls Engineer in the Augusta, Ga area at Starbucks Coffee Company (Manufacturing). Most of my job consists of developing software applications related to my industry and manufacturing business intelligence. I have recently began managing capital projects with my organization as well as my previous employer so I only had about four years of experience managing capital projects prior to sitting for the PMP® exam. I knew that the PMP® credential would allow me to be more competitive within my organization so I went for it! A quick online search revealed that the PM PrepCast seemed to be the most cost effective approach to a successful test and I happen to learn better with some type of video delivery whereas traditional classroom coursework didn’t fit within my schedule.

Joel OgdenI am currently broadening my business acumen as a Business Development Principal with Jacobs, primarily working in the public and defense sectors. I have over 15 years of management and IT consulting experience working with Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte Consulting, and now Jacobs. Recently, I was the deputy program manager for a multi-million dollar software development project for a government customer. It was in this role that I pursued my MBA in Project Management and began the quest for PMP certification. I never saw myself becoming a PM, but as my responsibilities grew, I became acutely aware of the need for solid project management across the various projects I supported. This led me to pursue the PMP beginning last summer (July 2015), and achieving the certification in December 2015.

Meena Kumar PMPI live in Sacramento, California where I have spent all of my adult life.  Currently, I work for the California Department of Technology, but I have been employed for approximately 25 years with the State of California.  My biggest enjoyment is writing so I am always tasked with writing impact analyses, concept documents, project documents, and requirements.  Once upon a time, I also worked in drinking water so I wrote permits, inspection reports, and issued citations.  In my private life, I own a solar business where I have really been able to use my project management skills. During the course of my studies, I spoke to several others looking to take the PMP exam.  My first recommendation was always that they purchase the PM PrepCast through OSP International, LLC., which also comes with the PM Exam Simulator (a 90-day subscription).  Not only are the podcasts with Cornelius Fichtner amazingly helpful and engaging, but the price for the entire purchase is so economical!

Magroud Noreddine PMP CSMMy name is Noreddine Magroud, I have a background in Electronics and I worked for the past 5 years and half for a trading company in China specialized in tailored LED products. We also launched a customized website in fashion accessories to sell products in Europe. It was a great experience for me to step into the field of project management.

For the first week of study I would recommend before starting the videos to take the pre-course self assessment, then start the videos ( 3 chapter ) with the PMBOK guide only.

Paul Faucher PMPI am a senior systems professional focussing on managing technology based projects. I work as an independent consultant helping organizations manage the development, implementation, and change management of enterprise systems in both private and government sectors.

I would recommend students first read the PMBOK and the PMP Exam Overview in order to prepare an effective study plan with focus on the process groups.

My next step would be to review the OSP International Study Plan. I subscribed to this material and found it quite helpful in preparing for my exam.
