Let me explain.
We have completed half the work. As per the plan, 100% work <=> 5 months
So, 50% work <=> 2.5 months

2.5 months is the Earned Schedule.
3.0 months is the Actual Time.

Accordingly,
SV = ES - AT = -0.5 months
SPI = ES/AT = 0.83

A is the correct choice.

This is one of the questions that look like a math question bu really isn't as long as you know the definitions of all the performance indices and variances.

The project is 50% complete and 60% into the schedule. It is BEHIND Schedule - therefore the project's SPI is less than 1. Therefore only A or C can be correct.
In terms of time they are at 2.5 months worth of earned value but they have burned 3 months of Planned Value. Therefore they are -0.5 months in Schedule Variance.

The answer is A

How did they get this answer?

A project was planned to take 5 months. The team is currently 3 months into it and has completed half of the work.

Applying Earned schedule technique, what are the performance data of the project?


SV: -0.5 months, SPI: 0.83
SV: 1.5 months, SPI: 1.5
SV: -2,5 months, SPI: 0.83
SV: 0.5 months, SPI: 1.83
