The Compromising technique involves finding solutions that bring some degree of satisfaction to both parties. While Smoothing technique includes making some concessions, but it does not result in a permanent or complete resolution of the conflict. (Rita v9, pg 396)
Ex.
"Let's calm down and get the job done!" - Smoothing
"Let us do a little of what both of you suggest" - Compromising
I have a question about the difference between Compromising and Smoothing in Conflict Management.
In both cases, there are some concessions that are made to find a solution. The only difference I see is that on Smoothing we emphasize agreements rather than concessions, but at the end the result (concession: lose-lose) is the same, no ?
