I passed the PMP exam 2 hours ago. I've prepared for the PMP exam for almost 4 months. I passed at the first attempt!
Here is how I passed PMP.
1. Studied PMBOK 2 Times (First Read to get an overview, second read to get more grip on the fundamentals)
2. Read Rita Mulcahy’s guide seventh edition ( 2 Read and 1 Review )
3. Completed 35 hours Contact class through PM-Prepcast
4. Registered for PMP Exam and scheduled it 45 days in advance.
5. I took several break during the 4 months of preparation, 3 weeks break after 1 read of PMBOK and 1 read of Rita’s guidd and 10 days off during X’mas and Newyear.
6. Spend 2 hours ( average ) per day to prepare for the exam.
7. 2 full day preparation just before the exam
8. Read Rita Mulcahy’s Flash card two times
9. Attempted exam’s using Rita Mulchy’s Exam Simulation Software
1. PMP Exam ( 1 exam )
2. Super PMP ( 1 exam )
3. 5 exams ( Exams focusing on the each processing areas )
4. 9 Exams ( Exams focusing on the Knowledge areas).
Here is my Result.
Initiating – Proficient
Planning - Proficient
Executing – Proficient
Monitoring and Controlling – Mod.Proficient
Closing – Mod.Proficient
Here is my tips.
1. Plan it in advance at least 3-4 months ( This will give you enough time to prepare and you do not have to follow any tough schedule). Enjoy PMP preparation at your leisure time.
2. Focus on a single study material apart from PMBOK guide.
3. Create a plan and create milestones according to your convenience
4. After first round of preparation, attempt a mock exam and understand the GAP in your knowledge area and processing groups- This is very important, it will help you to focus on the areas where you need to improve.
5. I did it alone with PMP Podcast from Cornelius Fichtner and with Rita’s Study material. No group study.
