Ally,

Your understanding is correct.

As far as the ECO is concerned, it has already been updated and the new version will be effective for those taking the exam after December 15, 2019.

Hey Donald, thanks for your reply. So just to confirm, I should just go with the understanding that

1) in the Close Project/Phase process, you CONFIRM that scope/deliverables were accepted

2) in the Validate Scope process, you OBTAIN acceptance of scope/deliverables.

P.S. Is there any way to request that the PMI update their wording on that packet? If what we say above it true, the packet is flat-out using the wrong terminology and many students are likely getting these questions as a direct result.

Thanks,
Ally

Hi Ally,

Deliverables are accepted as part of the Validate Scope process. The accepted deliverables then serve as an input to the Close Project or Phase process. Delivery and formal acceptance of the deliverables is then confirmed as part of project closure. The ECO states, "Obtain final acceptance of the project deliverables from relevant stakeholders in order to confirm that project scope and deliverables were achieved" (emphasis added). The verbiage in the ECO may be a little confusing, but it is referring to confirmation.

Question 155 of Practice Exam 3 makes a distinction between "obtain" final acceptance vs. "confirm" final acceptance, saying that "obtaining final acceptance of deliverables" happens in validate scope, while confirming final acceptance happens in closing. However, looking at the Project Management Professional Examination Content packet, it says "obtain final acceptance" for the first process of closing!! Who's right? This has come up in a few problems in the practice exams.
