The charter must be done at least once, and generally is done only once. However, the PMBOK points out that it may be beneficial to create a new charter at some future point in the project (e.g., at the beginning of the next phase). Each phase does not require a new charter, per se, but it could be in the best interest of the project/company/stakeholder/etc. to do so.

Hi Steven

Is your response valid in context with the PMBOK6?

If yes, then what is the relevance when the PMBOK says "This process is performed once or at predefined points in the project." What does predefined points refer to in here?

Please guide.

Haitham,

Generally in project management, regardless of how many phases, there is only one project charter, signed by the sponsor during the Initiating phase. The PMP exam will only require you to know that there is one project charter.

Thanks
