Hi there,

Coming from consulting and finance, you can breathe easy: it is strictly conceptual and judgment-based, not a financial modeling exam. You will not be asked to calculate discounted cash flows or multi-year valuations; financial metrics like NPV, ROI, and Payback Period are tested purely for high-level decision-making (e.g., choosing Project A over Project B, or evaluating trade-offs when strategic priorities shift). Much of that jump from 8% to 26% is simply a reshuffling of core governance, risk management, and formal change control out of the Process domain into Business Environment, alongside situational questions on regulatory compliance, organizational adoption (change management), and external environmental factors like ESG constraints. Focus your prep on how a project manager acts as a strategic partner to protect business value and navigate organizational constraints rather than crunching numbers, and you will be in great shape.

Best of luck!

Hello,

Yes, you will get questions on metrics and documents and stuff like that. You may be asked to calculate something, but it will mostly ask you to determine if a number is good or bad. Or using KPI's, if the project is over budget and under time or over time and under budget and stuff like that. I had a lot of questions about stakeholders.

Coming from finance and strategy consulting, I was actually interested to see this jump from 8 to 26 percent. For those who have already taken the new exam, what topics actually showed up?

The official ECO says it covers strategic alignment, governance, compliance, benefits realization, organizational change, and executive stakeholders. But how deep do we actually need to go?

Is it mostly conceptual, like understanding what benefits realization means? Or should I expect calculations like ROI, NPV, and IRR? And what about sustainability and ESG? I have seen those mentioned but I am not sure if they are tested.

I think this is an interesting shift but I do not want to overprepare on financial metrics if the exam is more about judgment.
