Hi Francescka,

First off, taking on the PMP after 12 years in healthcare administration is a huge move, and your background in managing complex operations is going to be a major asset. It is completely normal to feel nervous—especially with a new exam rollout—but don't let the format changes shake your confidence.

While candidates are just starting to experience the live test environment, here is what you should expect regarding those new question styles:

Case Studies: Rather than a simple one- or two-sentence scenario, these present a short background scenario with a couple of parameters (like project constraints or stakeholder concerns) and ask 2–3 sequential questions based on that same context. Take a breath, read the context carefully once, and evaluate each question against that core setup.

Graphic-Based & Visual Questions: Expect to interpret basic visual data—such as burnup/burndown charts, milestone timelines, or simple process flows—and answer what step or action the PM should take next based on the visual evidence.

The most important thing to remember is that the underlying PMI mindset hasn't changed. Whether a question is presented as a traditional text scenario, a case study, or a visual chart, PMI is still testing your ability to evaluate the situation, prioritize team safety/compliance, and choose the most proactive, logical next step.

To get comfortable with these new item types before test day, make sure you take advantage of the updated PMP Exam Simulator Deluxe. The Core Release was built specifically to mirror these case-study and visual question formats so you won't encounter any surprises when you sit for the actual exam next week.

Trust your 12 years of experience, stick to your process, and take it one question at a time!

Best of luck,

Been in healthcare administration for 12 years. Finally ready to take the PMP and of course the format changes right as I'm about to schedule.

I know the outline is on PMI's website. I've read it. But reading about case studies and graphic-based questions is different from actually experiencing them. I'm scheduled for next week and feeling nervous about how different the actual test day will feel.

Has anyone sat for the new version yet? Would love to hear what the experience is actually like.
