While candidates are just starting to experience the live test environment, here is what you should expect regarding those new question styles:
Case Studies: Rather than a simple one- or two-sentence scenario, these present a short background scenario with a couple of parameters (like project constraints or stakeholder concerns) and ask 2–3 sequential questions based on that same context. Take a breath, read the context carefully once, and evaluate each question against that core setup.
Graphic-Based & Visual Questions: Expect to interpret basic visual data—such as burnup/burndown charts, milestone timelines, or simple process flows—and answer what step or action the PM should take next based on the visual evidence.
The most important thing to remember is that the underlying PMI mindset hasn't changed. Whether a question is presented as a traditional text scenario, a case study, or a visual chart, PMI is still testing your ability to evaluate the situation, prioritize team safety/compliance, and choose the most proactive, logical next step.
