Hey Joseph,

Welcome to the world of Project Management! Asking about the time commitment early on is exactly how a good PM operates.
To answer your question directly: that specific PMI Introduction course is just a quick, high-level micro-course. It only takes about 1 to 2 hours of total seat time to finish.

However, if your actual goal down the road is to get a professional certification like the CAPM or PMP, the game changes. You will need a formal course that provides 35 contact hours of documented training.
But watching 35 hours of video is just the baseline—to actually get your PMI Certification, you will need to: study, take mock tests, and master the material; you should realistically expect a total commitment of around 150 to 200 hours spread over 2 to 4 months.

When I started my own study journey, the sheer volume of information online gave me a ton of anxiety. I had no idea where to begin. What saved me was The PM PrepCast Elite Package.
Instead of leaving you to guess, it has a built-in Study Coach Guidebook that breaks down exactly what to do step-by-step from A to Z, but lets you adjust it around your own work and family schedule.
If you decide to go for a full certification, definitely check that out. It’s a tool that actually guides you through the overwhelm instead of just dumping info on you.

Best of luck,

Hi everyone,

I’m considering getting into project management and have been looking at some of the training options from the Project Management Institute. One thing I’m struggling to find is how much time the courses actually take to complete.

For example, the Introduction to Project Management course says it’s self-paced, but I’m not seeing any estimate for total hours or suggested weekly pacing.

For anyone who has taken PMI courses before, what kind of time commitment should I expect? Are these usually around 5–10 hours, closer to 20+, or something more substantial? Just trying to get a realistic idea before purchasing.
