Hi, my brother owns a PMBOK 6 and was wondering if i should still pick up PMBOK 7 or is PMBOK 8 the way to go with it since I'm studying for the exam in July? Does the PMBOK volume matter or change?

Charles,

If you're studying for the PMP exam, look at the Exam Content Outline for a list of references.

Good luck!

Hi Charles,

When you say you do prepare for the exam in July, do you mean the "old/current" exam version (which is only available until the end of July 2026), OR
Do you plan to sit for the upcoming NEW exam version (probably available from August on; PMI has not released precise dates yet)?

If you plan for the current version (and this is what I assume), then - as Harry mentioned - go primarily with the current Exam Content Outline (NOT the NEW one!).
The Exam is based on the ECO, NOT on the PMBoK Guide; therefore, it almost does not matter which Version you use.
However, instead of using the 6th Edition, I would recommend going with the Process Guide (has replaced the 6th Edition or at least parts of it) and the 7th Edition in companion.

Even more important is to use a good prep book like Rita's or (I do prefer) Kim Heldman AND an excellent Exam Simulator (most crucial), which should obviously be the PM Exam Simulator by Cornelius.

Hope that helps,

Markus
