I'm preparing for my PMP certification and I've come across a few questions regarding the initial 35 PDU requirements. I understand that PMI requires candidates to have 35 PDUs (or contact hours) of formal project management education to be eligible for the PMP exam. However, I'm unsure about the time frame within which these hours should have been acquired.

Like is there an "expiry date" or time frame for when these 35 PDUs should have been earned? Like what if my PDUs were earned 10 years ago still be considered valid?

Can someone point me directly to where this specific requirement is stated in PMI's official documentation or guidelines? I'd like to be absolutely certain about this aspect before proceeding further.

Hi Kenneth,

The Contact Hours - once earned - never expire.
It doesn't matter how long ago you earned them, as long as you can prove it.

This should be stated in the PMP/PMI Credentials Handbook (not checked the current version yet).

Hope that helps.

Kenneth,

I have never seen an expiration date stated for the 35 contact hours. When applying for the exam, it was never asked when I got them. They may ask for proof you did them, but how long ago you got them is irrelevant. They just want to see that you received some form of formal training in project management.
