Take practice exams before boot camp? 1 month 2 weeks ago #32811

Hello All,

Does it make sense to take full-length practice exams before.during, or after the boot camp? I started taking before and realize how little I know. This is fine since I've not finished reading the books yet. I used the exam as an indicator of what to cover.

Should I retake an exam after I've finished the boot camp and read the books, or will I get false/positives for results since I'll know more of the material?

Cheers!

Leor,

Since you have already taken one (or more) exams, you can indeed use this as a gauge by retaking the same exam after the camp. But it's not perfect since you will probably also remember what the correct answer was. Still it will give you an indication as to your improvement thanks to the boot camp. Take it with a grain of salt.

But I would now recommend that you stop taking any further exams and instead read the following 3 documents/books: The PMP Exam Content Outline (which explains what you will be tested on during the exam), The PMBOK Guide 7th Edition (good foundation on general PM) and The Agile Practice Guide (good foundation for agile PM).

These 3 will give you a great head start. Don't worry if things are confusing when you read them. The boot camp will clarify things. (If it doesn't then ask for your money back!).

Hello Cornelius,

Thanks much for the thorough and helpful response to my post. It makes sense to first read the material and have some general understanding of the different topics, terms, etc. I figure the Boot Camp can help provide more nuanced approaches to understanding the material.

Fortunately, those three books are available for free online. I first plan to read the PMBOK Guide before starting on the Agile Practice Guide. With both being PDFs, I can highlight and draw crude stars to mark key material.

Hello,

Are you using it just as a gauge to see how well the boot camp worked? Then I would take one before and after.

Most boot camps shouod he able to reliably show you how likely you are to pass the test through their course though. It shouldn't be necessary.
