TOPIC: Agile-heavy teams and PMP

I lead a small dev team at a startup, and we run everything in Agile: sprints, standups, backlog grooming, the works. I’ve been thinking about getting PMP-certified to round out my skill set and maybe prep for a bigger role down the line.

I know PMP covers Predictive and Hybrid too, but I’m curious if it still feels relevant for someone deep in Agile. Has anyone here taken the exam while working in a fast-paced tech environment?

I'd love to know how you guys balanced the prep and whether it helped in your day-to-day.

No education of any kind is ever wasted. It may or may not help you in your current role, but pursuing the PMP, and especially, PMP+ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) will almost certainly give you a leg up on the next person looking at the position.

Do you see yourself continuing in a purely Agile environment (either in your current organization, or in the future)?
If yes, then have you considered the PMI-ACP certification instead (Agile)?
If you are open to future opportunities in Agile as well as hybrid/ waterfall, then I would recommend PMP for a more over-arching skill set.

I am on the same page as my colleagues here;
However, in your specific case (as far as I understood your situation based on the info you provided here)
My recommendation would be to pursue the PMI-ACP first, as it is immediately beneficial for your day-to-day work.
As a next step, the PMP would be very useful to broaden your knowledge and prepare for more (senior) roles.
And then, as a third step, perhaps the PMI-CPMAI (Certified Professional in Managing AI) could be a very valid option from my perspective.
I am pretty convinced that the CPMAI will become more and more important and relevant, since AI is just everywhere (and therefore more or less a topic in any future project.

And that is the point, the overall question is not, what is the immediate next step, the much more important question is - and Anusha touched that already - how does your career plan
look like?
If you have that plan, the single steps are coming more or less automatically.
