Just need a bit of help clarifying the PMP exam requirements. I know I need to complete the 35 contact hours, but do I also need to pass a course exam before I can take the actual PMP exam? Would love some other reminders/insights from PMP exam takers!

Hi, that would be very beneficial to take the preparation exam. It will help you to test your knowledge. If you have enough working hrs in project management and enough hrs in the Project management courses, then you do not need to take any. If not- then it;s mandatory to accumulate it through courses.

Hi John!
It's only course hours that count towards the PMP certification requirements, no need to prove that you passed an exam ( www.pmi.org/certifications/project-management-pmp ), but it's highly recommended to pass as many training tests as possible from a reputable provider to assess your knowledge and get used to the wording and structure of the questions.
Good luck with your preparation,
Elena

Hi John,

First and foremost, good luck on your journey. The 35 hours are required for course study, but beyond that no other exams are required before you can take the exam. As Elena has recommended, best practice would be to take as many practice quizzes or exams as you can in preparation for the real thing. This will limit the amount of possible retakes you will have to perform before passing. It will cost you $675 to take the PMP exam and you are only allowed 3 attempts within the year before being forced to repay. Prepare proactively!

Hope this helps.
