Hey everyone!

I’m currently working toward getting my Project Management certification, and I’m in the stage where I need to lock in a solid prep course. The thing is… these courses can get expensive.

So I thought I’d reach out to the community. Has anyone come across discounted project management courses or promo codes that are still valid?

Also, for those of you who’ve already passed your exam: How did you choose your course provider?

I'm trying to be smart about this both financially and time-wise.

Miguel,

I have found that generally, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a high-quality prep course, you're going to have to pay for it. Even if you just want to get the reference material, you'll have to pay for it.

Yes, preparation can be expensive. You have to decide on if it's worth it or not. Occasionally, there will be discount codes available for various courses, but asking the community to do your research for you is kind of lazy.

I'm a professional consultant. People/potential clients (primarily individuals and small businesses) constantly ask me for discounts. Universally, my response is, "If you want the goods, you have to pay the tariff." The same goes with professional exam preparation material.

Hi Miguel,

You’re 100% right to think twice before dropping serious cash on a prep course. The *real* value isn’t just in flashy content, but in how well it fits your style and schedule.
Here’s what I always recommend to my mentees:

**1. On-Demand vs. Live Courses: What’s Right for You?**

* **On-Demand Courses:**
Flexible, budget-friendly, and perfect if you want to study at your own pace or need to fit prep around work, family, or random bursts of motivation at 2 AM. PM PrepCast, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning—all fall in this category.
*Best for:* Self-motivators, people with unpredictable schedules, or those who want to binge-watch content and practice on their own terms.

* **Live/Instructor-Led Courses:**
It's usually pricier, but you get structure, accountability, real-time Q&A, and a community vibe. Some people need the push of a schedule and the chance to ask questions on the spot.
*Best for:* Anyone who thrives on deadlines, wants interaction, or tends to procrastinate when left to their devices.

**2. Match the Course to *Your* Learning Style**

Ask yourself:

* Do I learn best by listening, watching, doing, or discussing?
* Am I disciplined enough to stay on track solo, or do I need scheduled sessions?
* Will a live group motivate me, or stress me out?

Don’t just go with the “most recommended” course—go with the format that fits your brain and life. Otherwise, you risk paying for features you won’t use (or feeling guilty when you ghost the live sessions).

**3. Pro Tips:**

* Many providers offer both formats—sometimes with hybrid options (on-demand content plus occasional live Q&A).
* Before you buy, check if you can access a sample lesson or attend a trial session to see if the vibe matches your learning needs.
Look for courses that include practice exam access. The best prep comes from combining solid instruction with realistic practice.

If you want personalized recommendations, let me know about your learning style. I’m happy to suggest what’s worked best for people with similar preferences.

Lead with empathy. Empower with trust. Show up human every single day. Stay curious. See you out there.

BR,

Markus

PS: If you go with On-Demand, there is a nice discount for the PMPrepCast this month; PM PrepCast has always been my #1 recommendation for all self-paced learners.

Hi Miguel,

Of course this forum will be bias, but the PM Prepcast seems to be one of the most budget-friendly options out there. In fact, it's the reason I chose this course over a more structured approach.

A $2k course would pretty much guarantee I passed, but the cost was far too high. The cost of the test is only around $400, so the course cost more than attempting the test several times.

I know you're probably scared you will fail without a high-priced prep course, because I was. However, the test isn't as bad as people make it out to be, in my opinion. As long as you studied, you have a pretty good chance to pass the test on the first, second, or third attempts.

Prepcast often has discounts on its course, which is a fairly decent course. In retrospect, the cost of the Prepcast is probably the most I would want to spend on a prep course. If you really want to save money, buy PMP for Dummies and watch free YouTube videos to supplement your learning.
