Hi everyone! I'm currently preparing for the PMP using the PM PrepCast simulator as my main study resource, and it's been helpful so far. However, I'm worried that relying on just one simulator might not be enough to pass the exam.

For those who have taken the PMP exam, do you think the PM PrepCast simulator alone is sufficient? Should I complement it with other resources, like additional practice exams or study guides? If so, which ones would you recommend? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I totally understand your concern. Here’s what I’d recommend:
  • PM PrepCast is solid, especially for getting used to the question style and logic PMI expects. Just make sure you’re reviewing why answers are right and wrong — that’s where the real learning happens.
  • To supplement, consider PMP Study Hall (Essential or Plus) by PMI — a bit of a different question style and adds exam-day pressure simulation.
In short: PM PrepCast can be enough. Just make sure you're hitting consistent 70–80% scores in timed mock exams and deeply reviewing your answers. Add a secondary source only if you need variety or a confidence boost.

Rooting for you!

Hey warren,

First off, I want to wish you good luck on your PMP journey. I hope it is as rewarding for you as it has been for me. I’m regards to your questions about Prepcast, I think you will find tons of benefits utilizing it as your primary study resource. I personally would recommend two other component that I felt helped me

A LITERARY COMPONENT
You want to have either the 6th edition PMBOK or 7th edition and read them as much as possible in your downtime. Specifically, focus on the units that you do poorly on when taking your practice quizzes / exams. Prep cast does a great job letting you know where in the PMBOK you can access the details related to each question asked. I found this after study to be very useful.

A VISUAL COMPONENT
I also would watch PMP exam related YouTube videos whenever I had down time. I would try to immerse myself in Project management terminology and thought processes. The exam itself is very nuanced in the answer it’s looking for, so understanding those key terms from hearing them explained in video, I found to be beneficial.

Warren,

The test is difficult, but many people feel they overprepare for it. If you're scoring 60% or higher on the Simulator, you have a very good chance of passing the test. If you fail the first time, then try for some additional resources.

Literature, such as PMP for Dummies, should work just fine for your purposes. Also, supplement it with YouTube videos and podcasts.

However, if you're not currently struggling, there is no need for additional resources.
