Gaurav,

I agree that if the question asked about resource availability then checking the resource calendar might be a correct response. However, the project schedule should have have activity start and end dates rather than the project calendar.

Hi Donald,
i am agree with defined definition -:

According to PMI, The project calendar is a "calendar that identifies working days and shifts that are available for scheduled activities." The project schedule is defined as an "output of a schedule model that presents linked activities with planned dates, durations, milestones, and resources."

However in doubt with given example. Resource calendar- It identifies the working days, shifts, start and end of normal business hours, weekends and public holidays when each specific resource is available Information on which resources ( Such as team resources, equipment and material) are potentially during a planned activity period is used for estimating resource utilization. ( PMBOK - 373)

MY understanding says, if exam ask about resource availability then check with resource calendar rather then project calendar. Project calendar will have activity start and end date.

Kindly throw some lights please.

Hi Gaurav,

According to PMI, The project calendar is a "calendar that identifies working days and shifts that are available for scheduled activities." The project schedule is defined as an "output of a schedule model that presents linked activities with planned dates, durations, milestones, and resources." So for example if the exam question asks where you might find a project team member's availability for scheduled tasks, then the project calendar would be the appropriate response. Conversely, if the exam question is asking when a particular project activity has been scheduled along with assigned resources and dependencies, then the appropriate response would be the project schedule. The PMBOK® Guide provides a good description of both on pages 217-220.

Also, the project schedule and project calendar are outputs of the Develop Schedule process rather than the Control Schedule process. Updates to the project calendar and project schedule are outputs of the Control Schedule process. So the project schedule and calendar are created as part of the Develop Schedule process and may be updated as part of the Control Schedule process.
