I am studying the material to acquire my 35 contact hours but I am not a Project manager and really don't have much in the way of hands-on experience. Would that disqualify me from taking the PMP exam? And if so, how would someone in my shoes acquire the needed work hours to qualify.

Thanks
Ralph

Ralph,

Yes. Unfortunately this would disqualify you from taking the PMP Exam.

Please take a look at page 8 of the credentials handbook:
www.pmi.org/en/Certification/~/media/PDF...pdc_pmphandbook.ashx

This is where you find the requirements, and if you don't meet them you cannot take the exam.

What can you do?

- Step 1: Take the CAPM exam to establish on your resume that your are a PM

- Step 2: Listen to these 2 podcasts about how to become a PM:
www.project-management-podcast.com/index...me-a-project-manager
www.project-management-podcast.com/index...me-a-project-manager

- Step 3: Get assigned to projects, so that you can get the experience.
Until Next Time,
