Your current employment status has no effect on your ability to take the exam. As long as you fulfill all the prerequisites then that's all it takes.

I have 9 years of experience and sufficient project management hours as well. The only glitch here is that I am not working for last 8 months. Does that matter? I mean do I have to be working to take the exam and do I need current experience hours. Or is it that my experience until 8 months before is sufficient in order to be eligible even if I have not been working last few months?
