TOPIC: New question types... how different are they really?

I know the current exam already has drag-and-drop and hotspot questions. So what's actually new with the update?

I keep hearing about case studies: longer scenarios with multiple questions attached. Is that the main difference? Or are there other formats I should be practicing?

You are right. There are new questions types. What is new in the 2026 PMP exam update is mainly the added emphasis on case/scenario questions and graphic-based questions.

The official PMP Exam Content Outline lists the question types near the back of the document. You can find it here: www.pm-prepcast.com/pmpoutline -- there are about 8 question types described.

The important one to understand is the case or scenario format. In those you will see a longer project situation, and then answer a series of 5 questions based on that same scenario. You'll get two of those (10 questions total) -- So yes, this is one of the main differences.

But it is not the only difference. You should also be comfortable interpreting visual information, like charts, graphs, diagrams, project data, or other project artifacts. The exam is moving further toward "apply your judgment in a realistic project situation," not just "recognize the definition".

So the practical answer is this: If your simulator only prepares you for traditional multiple-choice questions, it is probably not enough for the updated exam. If it already includes drag-and-drop, hotspot, matching, multiple-response, visual interpretation, and case/scenario-style practice, then you are much better prepared.
