A colleague's PMP application unfortunately got rejected. Now I’m a bit worried about making my own application foolproof.

For those who’ve gone through the process successfully, what did you include in your experience descriptions or project details to ensure your application met PMI’s standards?

Hi Chrisy,

I understand your worry – it’s natural after seeing a rejection. What PMI really looks for is whether you clearly describe your role as a project manager. Focus your descriptions more on the
activities you performed rather than just the outcomes. Show how you applied project management skills across the process groups, and try to align your wording with the vocabulary from
the PMP Exam Content Outline. Keep it concise, avoid company jargon, and think in terms of what a neutral PMI reviewer would immediately recognize as project management work.
If you do that, your application will be much stronger and stand a much lower risk of being rejected.

Feel free to reach out on LinkedIn (Link in the footer) and let me review your application if you'd like.

Hi Chrisy,
Review your project descriptions to:
1. Ensure you cover all PM areas which you learnt in your theory - don't make it too theoretical, just make sure you describe all phases of the project and your involvement in a succinct manner
2. Make sure to include some of the PMP language to illustrate that you have practical experience in those areas

In addition, there is a small but important possibility that you may be audited. Prepare with the assumption that you will be audited.
Make sure you review your final project descriptions with the people you have listed as managers and make sure they are onboard with your descriptions.
In case you are audited, those people will need to corroborate your project experience.

I understand the nervousness, but it will be fine as long as you are well prepared. Best of luck!
