Which would you recommend for beginners?

For beginners? Definitely CAPM.

To me, the word "beginner" indicates that this candidate may not yet have achieved the basic eligibility requirements for the PMP. In particular, they may not have 36 months of experience as a project manager.

And since the basic requirement for CAPM is "have 23 hours of PM training" it is much easier to cover.
