Understandably the PMBOK framework will be revamped in year 2021 onward, which means that many of the domains and mechanistic ITTO processes found in 5th and 6th edition (and earlier) will be substituted with more general and outcome-based domains.

The PMBOK Guide 7th edition is not available in the market as yet, so the actual content is still very much up in the air unless someone in this forum here is involved in the review panel and able to share some insights.

1) Will the 10 areas of knowledge body (excluding intros) will still be relevant or referenced in the 7th edition? I am certified in both PMP and PRINCE2 are therefore able to compare the pros and cons between these two guidelines. PMP is rich in the BoK, notably procurement management, stakeholders engagement and risk management, and it will be sad to see if these BoK get wiped out from from the explicit framework and subsumed into some obscure parts of the new edition.

2) Previously certified PMPs (including myself) were assessed based on our project management ability and our knowledge of the old PMBOK edition, in which case how do we keep ourselves current with the new PMBOK requirements? Are there any courses out there that help PMPs keep their knowledge current? Say, perhaps courses that contribute to PDU.

With the major revamp of the 7th edition, I feel as if there is now demarcation between the old-generation PMPs and new-generation PMPs.

The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition is expected to be released in early 2021. Unlike the prior editions which were process-based, the 7th Edition of The PMBOK® Guide is principles-based. At this point, we are not aware of anyone who has any PMBOK7 based materials (whether they be targeted to those preparing for their PMP or certified PMPs).
If you are preparing for the exam, it is important to remember that the PMBOK® Guide is an input to preparing for exams —and is listed as a reference—but it is not a test-preparation tool. The PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition remains one of several references useful for exam preparation. Information about PMI certifications and future changes can be found at www.pmi.org/certifications
