Hi Millete,

First and foremost I want to applaud your work ethic and steadfastness. Being able to manage work/home life balance is indeed a project in and of itself. Having young children of my own where I work full time and then double as their athletic coaches after, I can completely relate to your scenario. The world doesn’t stop moving it feel like hahaha.

But here are a few tips that worked for me.

• ingest project management information through audible resources. Having a book in your hand or a computer to test with is usually very hard with work and children. I found I was able to make great strides in studying during car time and down time at kiddo events. I would constantly play YouTube videos throughout my day and listen to the topics at hand. I can’t say I would always understand them right away, but by hearing the topics and gauging my understanding it made my studying after the videos targeted. This also allowed me to study essentially while driving as I would connect YouTube to my car audio and treat it like an audio book haha.

•testing early morning before they wake up. This was harder given this would take place on my weekends when I’m off. I did find the world to slow down during early morning study sessions on weekend. I would get a good two hours of test prep using PMP PrepCast quiz questions ideally before the kiddos woke up. I Would use audio resources as I’m scrambling with them during the day, and then would test again once they lay down for bed.

Hope these two tips help, and I want to wish you great success on your PM journey. It’s a very rewarding achievement!

Hi Milette,

First off—huge respect. Juggling marketing work, creativity, and full-time parenting while studying for the CAPM? That’s not just multitasking, that’s agile project management in real life.

And yes, you're definitely not alone in feeling overwhelmed. Tons of people prepping for CAPM or PMP while managing careers, families, and personal goals are feeling it too. You’re in good company.

Some Honest, Practical Tips
1. Micro-study wins over marathon study: Even 15–20 mins while kids nap or during lunch can be golden. Use that time to review flashcards or run through 1–2 practice questions.
2. Make it visual: Turn PMBOK processes into charts or sticky notes on a wall. Even the fridge. Seeing it daily reinforces memory.
3. Audio content = multitasking gold: Play CAPM podcasts or summaries while doing chores or walking. It’s low-effort review time.
4. Celebrate small wins: Finished a practice test? Got through a knowledge area? Celebrate it like you would a product launch or your child using the potty solo. (Both are big deals!)

I’m a marketer by day, an artist by night, and a full-time mom 24/7. Studying for the CAPM in between feels like managing a live project but with toddlers! t’s tough, but I know it'll pass.

Just came by here to ask if anyone is feeling the overwhelmed too? Share some advice or just say hi.
